A native of Boston, Ben is an actor living in Los Angeles. He has recieved critical acclaim and award nominations for his acting and directing, and his two solo shows have performed to packed houses in New York and Los Angeles. He studied Art History at the University of Chicago and recieved his degree from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. It is a BFA with Honors in Acting. Ben kicks ass.
It all began with the projector. That was all Coolbaugh, no question about it.
Projecting iTunes was next, and then there was the night my screen saver popped up and showed an image from ‘Black Eyed Sue.’ Zack freaked out about watching that movie, and then it dawned on me that this projector thing was a great way to watch movies. But how? How could I transfom my rag tag group of friends into the greatest Cinema Salon ever conceived?
Love them though I do, my friends are lacking in vision in almost every way.
I knew that if I suggested we put up say ‘Star Wars,’ Coolbaugh would blanche. ‘Lord of the Rings’ and Wiener would start reading a magazine, anything else and Nubs would say I stole his idea. The only solution was to wait, and be ready.
What the crew needed was a proof of concept - something to whet their appetites so I could bring my vision of Movienight to life. A few days later we were projecting iTunes again, this time in the Back Yard, and I knew the time had come to put my plan into action.
I knew a feature length film would never be allowed, so I casually brought up the idea of projecting “Headsets: A Video Portrait” my ten minute tribute to the soon to be obsolete tradition of Wednesday night. Everyone hedged and hawed but I stuck to it and was responsible for the first ever Movienight Selection (both as the creator of the piece and as SELECTOR.)
Needless to say once the crew saw the beauty of a film projected ten feet wide my plan was in full gear.
It took a little time for my rules to be accepted (Only Ben Wiener truly knew the power of my rules to transform a mundane viewing experience into something special) and the Modern Iteration of Wednesday Movienight was born.
