While no one disputed the quality or the power of SELECTOR Eric Coolbaugh’s “Midnight Express,” it’s presentation at a special Saturday night MovieNight prompted the addition of language to early drafts of the MovieNight By-Laws excluding prison based films for a one year period.
Rule 6, Section E reads as follows: As of 25 February 2006, there will be no more prison films for the period of one (1) year. Sources close to the Group have suggested that after SELECTOR Ben Wiener’s “Papillon” the powerful “Midnight Express” effectively drove home the elusive theme that it sucks to be in prison.
Asked for a comment Mr. Coolbaugh stated: “I don’t see what the fuss is all about. Other than the sodomy I think it’d be pretty cool to be locked up there for a year. I bet John Hurt would rock out to Phish.”
Zack “Nubby” Eisenberg took a moment from his new baby August to say: “My life is over, I shoulda got the fucking vasectomy... (inaudible yelling) Joby, I’m kidding. Kidding. Oh, by the way honey it’s my movie this week so i’ll be out on Tuesday and Wednesday, and Steve just got this promotion and we’re gonna be drinking on Thursday.”
Ben Wiener asked if Judge Dredd counted as a prison film. Adding that Rob Schneider’s work in it is terribly under appreciated.
Ben Davis was busy not going to the gym and was unavailable for comment.
