The Saturday before, Eric Coolbaugh had ruptured his Achilles tendon in an ill
advised game of basketball at the Y. Selector Ben Wiener seized the
opportunity to treat us all to the greatest wheelchair movie of all time.
Finally Hitchcock reared his head at Movienight and from that historic opening
shot the crew knew they were in for something special. Art imitated life long
after this film ran, as Jocelyn saw to the convalescing Coolbaugh with caring
and fondness eerily similar to Grace Kelly.
“Miss Fremont, that feminine intuition stuff sells magazines, but in real life it’s still a fairy tale.”
SELECTOR Comments:
This was the perfect Movie Night film for a couple of reasons. Watching it outside, you feel like you're literally peering in to a courtyard and getting Jimmy Stewart's perspective on what's going on. And Eric Coolbaugh was in a wheelchair that night, recovering from surgery. So it was a tribute to him as well.
