The final week of the Guest SELECTOR Program was unquestionably messy.
Mr. Wiener had surprisingly failed to sell his Golden Ticket on eBay, and had
settled on his lovely wife Moni as the recipient. Sadly, real life intruded upon
the Back Yard tradition, and Moni’s brood and job made her follow through
impossible.
Grabbing at straws, she requested a change of venue to the Wiener’s Back
Yard for the showing, or possibly sending her film but not attending the
screening.
These requests alone demonstrated that Mr. Wiener had failed to impress upon Monika the carefully considered traditions of Movienight.
In her stead the Guest SELECTOR spot was offered to Pat Towne, who accepted but then pulled out at the last minute due to similar real world concerns.
Luckily Nubs and Tooda had anticipated problems with Wiener’s Guest SELECTOR (not yet knowing who it might be) and had arrived at this pick as our fallback selection.
‘Hostel’ is our first true horror film since John Landis’s well-recieved ‘An American Werewolf in London.’ Tooda maintains that he watched the latter for the first time in the company of his old friend, the former’s director.
Among the many firsts ‘Hostel’ represents, the most unique of them all is it is the first film in our (unofficial) canon whose original poster features a quote written by one of our members.
*As stated above, though Monika was the official Guest SELECTOR this was not her pick.
“I just fucked a girl two days ago and I don’t even remember the color of her tits.”
